UPDATE: Round Lake Beach motorcyclist died from injuries sustained in nearly 3-week-old Gurnee crash

A Round Lake Beach motorcyclist injured in an accident in Gurnee in May has died from his injuries, Lake County Coroner officials said.

Frank Rodriguez, 57, died Sunday at Advocate Medical Center in Libertyville from the blunt force injuries he received in the crash with a Toyota SUV on Grand Avenue in Gurnee, Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said in a news release.

Gurnee Police and Gurnee Fire Departments were called to the scene of the now-fatal crash at about 7:20 p.m. on May 23 involving the motorcycle the Toyota, authorities said.

Responding units found Rodriquez unresponsive on the pavement with serious injuries, authorities said.

He was transported from the scene to the hospital, authorities said.

Due to the seriousness of the crash, the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County was called in to assist with the investigation.

The initial investigation determined the Toyota was traveling east on Grand Avenue and attempted to turn left into a parking lot on the north side of the street after passing Dilley’s Road when it struck the motorcycle as it traveled west in the far right lane on Grand Avenue.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified by staff at Advocate Condell Medical Center that, despite care and treatment, Rodriquez died from his injuries in the Intensive Care Unit Sunday, authorities said.

The preliminary coroner’s investigation, including a review of medical records, shows Rodriguez died from blunt force injuries suffered as a result of the crash, authorities said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Gurnee Police Department and MCAT, authorities said.
